Today was a very interesting day because you just never know what kids will do, or say, or not say in this case.
Today, Tom the Trucker, Rapunzel’s Grandpa, came to her school to speak with the kids. We thought that they would have been loaded with questions but they really weren’t. Since when do first graders not have questions?
Everything went really well. The kids seemed to enjoy it. They really loved getting to climb in the cab and look around, and run around in the trailer. They learned that he could haul 950 children in his trailer and not be overweight. That’s about all the first graders in the city we live in. They were pretty amazed.

Tom also had a “friend” with him. He was a VERY large brown teddy bear, who at the begining of the day was not named. We thought that maybe the kids should vote on a name, so they did. Here were some of the names they came up with, Billy, Overhaul, Traveler, Jay, Jake, Omaha and a few others. They voted and we almost had a five way tie, but luckily we only ended up with a two way tie, Billy and Jack. Just as I was about to ask the kids to vote again on the two names the teacher very quietly said something at the back of the class. B.J. That was a great idea I said, we’ll name the bear Billy Jack and call him B.J. for short.
So now Tom and Billy Jack are getting ready to hit the road tomorrow. Hopefully they will head somewhere interesting. Especially since they have to send a postcard to the class.
I can’t wait to hear about it from the kids on Thursday when I go into the class. Maybe they’ll have more to say.

Hellooooo, blogger!!!!
Yeah, I’m back, sort of. I am sitting here at Panera Bread with my husband, two beautiful little girls, my keep me on track mother-in-law, who I am going to miss dearly when she leaves, and my sister-in-law Jo, who is being kind enough to let me use her computer to blog.
Mini update on the fender bender: Insurance paid for the damage, new bumper, maybe new paint. the guy was really cool when he called to get the date of the accident because he couldn’t remember it.
I am almost ready to take my drive test. I just need to practice parallel parking. I can drive, shift, listen to the radio, pay attention to the kids, and talk with the “licensed driver” in the passenger seat without any problems. I can even drive without getting lost. Last night Jo and I drove to three differnt Starbucks before we found one that wasn’t closed. She says I didn’t scare her which was good. I worry about that.
Last night was Superchunk’s 2nd birthday. She is now an official “terror.” But I wouldn’t give her up for anytyhing in the world.
Check back later for more updates, I will be emailing my blogs to Jo who will be posting them here when she has the chance. Maybe we’ll get my book on here so I can get some opinions. (Nothing big, but it was fun.)
I’m not sure how frequent the blogging will be. Our phone is still off, and I don’t know when it will bw back on. Oops,
everyone is packing up. I guess that means it’s time to go. So much to write, so little time. But that’s another blog.
